Gallery Journal

Insights from exhibitions, workshops, and residencies at our hillside gallery in Mijas Pueblo.

A hands-free workshop setting focused on materials and tools only. In the center, a robust etching press with a heavy steel roller and pristine felt blankets dominates the scene, set atop a paint-splattered metal stand on a concrete floor. Nearby, ink rollers, open tins of rich black and umber ink, and neatly arranged carving tools rest on a narrow, sculpted stone side table with a raw, textured edge. Overhead, cool, even studio lighting ensures every surface is clearly visible, creating soft, functional shadows. Photographic realism from a slightly low side angle, with moderate depth of field, highlights the contrast between industrial metal, tactile stone, and creamy paper. The atmosphere is focused and professional, evoking a high-caliber printmaking workshop.

Stories

An elegant exhibition wall in a contemporary art gallery, dedicated entirely to etchings. A precise grid of medium-sized works on paper, each in a slender, matte black frame with generous white mats, stretches across a flawless white wall. The etchings feature abstract linework and subtle tonal gradients in blacks and deep sepias. Track lighting on the ceiling casts focused, warm beams, creating tiny, crisp shadows around each frame and a subtle glow on the paper texture. The polished concrete floor subtly reflects the lower edges of the frames. Shot straight-on at eye level with photographic realism and perfect sharpness, the mood is quiet, intellectual, and curated, ideal for showcasing printmaking as a sophisticated art form.

A close-up, photographic realism shot of a sculpted stone table from Galería La Sopa (de piedra), its surface honed to a satin finish that catches soft gallery lighting. The stone is mottled with subtle mineral flecks and delicate veins, in tones of charcoal, ivory, and warm sand. The table stands on minimalist black metal legs, casting a crisp shadow on the smooth concrete floor. In the background, softly blurred, hangs a large monochrome etching in a simple oak frame. Warm, directional spotlights from above create gentle highlights along the stone’s edges. Captured from a low, three-quarter angle with shallow depth of field, the composition feels refined and intimate, emphasizing craftsmanship and materiality.
